TEHRAN — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced Monday that Tehran has responded to a US proposal for negotiations, directing Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to prepare for potential talks with Washington.
In a statement, Pezeshkian outlined specific conditions for engagement: “In response to the request of friendly governments in the region to reply to the proposal of the President of the United States for negotiations, I have instructed the Foreign Minister that, should an appropriate atmosphere free from threats and far from unreasonable expectations exist, he should prepare the ground for fair and equitable negotiations.”
The president emphasized that any talks must be conducted “based on the principle of dignity, wisdom, and expediency within the framework of national interests.”
Key Conditions
- Atmosphere free from threats
- Absence of unreasonable demands from Washington
- Fair and equitable negotiation framework
- Protection of Iranian national interests
The statement comes amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear program, regional influence, and support for proxy forces across the Middle East.
Pezeshkian noted that the response followed requests from “friendly governments in the region,” suggesting diplomatic pressure from regional allies encouraging dialogue between the longtime adversaries.
